WV Slates US 220 Project For Tier 2 Study

September 29th, 2017 by WCBC Radio

The West Virginia Division of Highways has committed to beginning the next phase of a Tier 2 environmental impact study on the upgrade of U.S. 220.

The Mineral County News Tribune quotes Delegate Gary Howell, who pointed out to the Division of Highways that Mineral County residents had no reason to vote for the roads bond because there was quote “nothing in it for them.”

That’s when the DOH issued a statement they had committed to the next phase of the US 220 project, which will narrow the proposed route from the general area of the base of the mountain west of Keyser to an actual route.

State transportation officials told WCBC News two years ago they were prepared to move forward to the Tier 2 study, but there had been no firm commitment until this week.
