December 18th, 2016 by WCBC Radio

West Virginia Governor Earl Ray Tomblin has filed a proclamation declaring public employees of the State of West Virginia will be excused from a half-day of work, Friday, December 23, 2016. West Virginia Code provides that when Christmas Day falls on a Sunday, the following Monday is observed as the official state holiday.

The proclamation has no effect on private business, local government or others not employed by the State of West Virginia. The proclamation does not affect the work requirements of public employees who may be called to duty to safeguard the health, safety and welfare of West Virginians. County commissions and courts may treat the afternoon of Friday, December 23, 2016 as if it were a legal holiday.
