Additional Charges Against Mt Ridge Teacher

November 21st, 2014 by WCBC Radio

On Friday, 1 42 year old Bart Alan Mazer, of Frostburg, was arrested when he turned himself in to the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I), after the Grand Jury for Allegany County indicted him on a charge of 3rd Degree Sex Offense. Mazer had been charged on 09/05/2014 with two counts of 4th Degree Sex Offense as a result of an investigation into allegations that Mazer, a teacher at Mountain Ridge High School, had engaged in inappropriate sexual contact, with a then 17 year old female who was a student at the school, during October and November 2013.

The latest charge is the result of continued investigation into allegations that Mazer had been involved in relationships with other students. C3I Investigators learned that Mazer had also engaged in inappropriate sexual contact with at least one other female Mountain Ridge High School student, who was 15 years of age at the time, during March 2013.  All of the incidents occurred at Mazer’s private residence. None of the sexual contact occurred on school property. Mazer was suspended, without pay, by the Allegany County Board of Education at the time of his initial arrest.

As part of the investigation, Investigators have obtained evidence that supports the allegations. In addition, Investigators served a search and seizure warrant at Mazer’s residence at the time of his initial arrest, and additional items of evidence were recovered at that time.  Mazer is currently being held at the Allegany County Detention center pending an initial appearance before a Circuit Court Judge.

            The investigation is continuing.
