Call For Informational Meeting With Residents On Future Of Rolling Mill/Maryland Ave Area

During Tuesday night’s public discussion on the future of the Rolling Mill/Maryland Avenue area- a Frostburg State University professor urged the city’s elected officials to hold an informational/public meeting with the residents who will be impacted. Kara Rogers-Thomas, an associate professor of sociology at FSU and a resident of Cumberland, has circulated a petition on Change.org and said it received 256 signatures opposing the city’s actions in the Rolling Mill. The plan of the Cumberland Economic Development Corporation would see dozens of houses in that section of town purchased and demolished, to make way for commercial development opportunities. Rogers-Thomas said first and foremost the mayor and city council members and the board of the CEDC need to talk with neighborhood residents- and to the general public…
