Commissioners Comment on Windmill Project on Dan’s Mountain

The Allegany County Board of Zoning Appeals was set to vote on a special exception requested by developers of a proposed 19 ­turbine wind project on Dan’s Mountain- however that may be delayed . The project is not without controversy as there has been a very vocal group of opponents fighting the effort and urging elected officials to intervene. The project is being proposed by Dan’s Mountain Wind Force LLC. Opponents say that citizens in Vale Summit, Cresaptown, Midland and Bel Air areas all will be negatively affected by the industrial 492-foot-tall windmills. Some of those in opposition to the project have suggested the Allegany County Commissioners create a law that would retroactively ban wind farms. Commissioner Jake Shade said such as action would lead to a myriad of problems, and that the bottom line is that the commissioners have little say on the matter.
