With opening day of the major league baseball season right around the corner, the Allegany County Commissioners publicly recognized Bobby Robertson, a native son who played professional baseball for 11 years. The Commissioners will proclaimed the opening day of the 2015 baseball season, Monday, April 6, as Bobby Robertson Day in Allegany County. Born in Frostburg, but raised in Mt Savage, Robertson was a three sport star growing up. The right handed slugger made it to the big leagues, playing nine seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates, and starring in the National League playoffs in 1971 and the ’71 World Series against the Baltimore Orioles. Robertson hit two home runs in the World Series; one of those came in Game Three off of Baltimore starter Mike Cuellar with Clemente on second and Stargell on first.
