Cumberland woman arrested on drug charge

On Friday, at approximately 11:17 a.m., the Cumberland Police Department arrested Tanya Kay Hartman, age 40, Cumberland, MD.  A Cumberland Police Officer on patrol observed a vehicle execute a traffic violation and as a result the officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle on N. Centre Street at Valley Street.  Hartman was the operator of the vehicle; the officer contacted her and spoke with her about the traffic violation.  While the officer was speaking with Hartman he observed her to be acting nervous.  The officer then requested a K-9 officer to respond so that a scan of the vehicle could be conducted for the presence or odor of CDS.  The K-9 scan was conducted which did result in a positive alert.  As a result the vehicle was and occupants were searched.  The searched revealed a controlled dangerous substance as well as drug paraphernalia.  Hartman claimed ownership of the illegal items and was placed under arrest and transported to Police Headquarters for processing.

 

The passenger in the vehicle, Brent Allen Denby, age 30, Mount Savage, MD was also placed under arrest after officer’s discovered an open arrest warrant for him.  Denby’s warrant stems from an investigation which was conducted by the Allegany County Sherriff’s Department related to forging documents, theft, fraud and CDS.  Denby was served with the warrant and taken to District Court for his initial appearance and held at the Allegany County Detention Center on $3,500.00.

 

Hartman was charged with possession of CDS not marijuana, and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.  Hartman was taken to District Court for her initial appearance and held on $8,000.00 at the Allegany County Detention Center.
