Allegany County Public Schools’ graduation rate continues to climb, according to data released on Tuesday, January 27, 2015, by the Maryland State Department of Education.  Not only is the graduation rate increasing, but also the dropout rate for ACPS students is decreasing. “I am very proud of the hard work of our students, teachers and instructional leaders that has led to our increasing graduation rate and decreasing dropout rate,” said ACPS Superintendent of Schools, Dr. David Cox.  “This is one of the best indicators of the progress we are making, especially as we navigate the transition to the College and Career Ready Standards and new assessments.” The four-year cohort graduation rate for students graduating in 2014 for ACPS is 91.51%, up from 90.09% last year and up from 87.21% in 2010.  At the same time, the 2014 cohort dropout rate for ACPS has fallen to 6.94%, down from 8.14% in 2013 and 10.36% in 2010.  The 2014 cohort graduation rate for ACPS is 5.12 points above the State’s graduation rate of 86.39%.  In addition, the 2014 dropout rate for ACPS is 1.41 points lower that the State’s dropout rate of 8.35%. While gaps in some student groups still exist, Allegany County is improving graduation rates and decreasing dropout rates for all groups.
