Evacuation in Oakland After Tanker Overturned

The town of Oakland business district was evacuated Wednesday when a tanker carrying 10,000 gallons of liquid propane overturned at Oak and Third streets at about 9:35 a.m.  Garrett county officials told WCBC News that the driver of the rig escaped injuries in the incident that prompted evacuation of the immediate area. The tanker apparently remained intact and no leak of its cargo was reported by late morning. Traffic was being detoured from U.S. Route 219 and state Route 135 to Sand Flat Road and two large cranes were brought  to the scene to upright the overturned rig. All electrical power in the town of Oakland was shut off when the cranes began the operation of setting of the truck back on its wheels.  Garrett County Administrator Monty Pagenhardt talked with WCBC News about the area that had to be evacuated…
