The Office of the State’s Attorney for Allegany County, the Honorable Michael O. Twigg, State’s Attorney, announced on Monday, January 26, 2015, that Donald Leo Fishel, 51, of Oldtown, was convicted in Allegany County Circuit Court of Theft having a value of between $1,000 and $10,000. The Honorable Louis Becker, retired Judge from Howard County, presided over the matter and sentenced Fishel to eight (8) years in the Maryland Division of Corrections.
On June 10, 2014, a riding mower went missing from Naylor’s True Value located in South Cumberland. An investigation conducted by the C3I Unit, Allegany County Sheriff’s Office and Morgan County, WV Sheriff’s Office revealed that the mower had been stored by Fishel at a scrap yard in Paw Paw, WV.
Allegany County Assistant State’s Attorney Erich Bean, who prosecuted the case, said “This is an excellent example of cooperation between multiple law enforcement agencies in several jurisdictions coming together to halt criminal activity in our community and assuring Mr. Fishel won’t be able to perpetrate a crime of this nature again for quite some time.”
The case was investigated by the C3I Unit, the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office and the Morgan County, WV Sheriff’s Office. Mr. Fishel was represented by Michael Stankan, Esq, of the Public Defender’s Office.
