Fracking Hopes Fading Fast

High hopes for a new revenue stream in the hundreds of millions of dollars annually for western Maryland appear to be fading fast- and one local lawmaker says it’s purely a game of politics. A bill to place a three-year moratorium on fracking in Maryland was approved in the Maryland House of Delegates by a vote of 93-45. On Monday, the Protect Our Health and Communities Act dodged attempts by House Republicans to change the legislation and make it easier for fracking to start in western Maryland. Currently there is no fracking in Maryland. House 1B republican delegate Jason Buckel tells WCBC News that down state lawmakers in far more liberal counties are making the decision to halt fracking simply as a political move to improve their standing with well funded environmental lobbying groups prior to the next election….
