Grantsville Man Arrested After Washington County Chase

On 8/29/2015 at approximately 7:30 PM, Troopers stopped a 2008 Red Chrysler Sebring on I-70 west of Clear Spring for speeding. The Trooper identified the driver on the traffic stop as 34 year old Robert Lee Dozier, of Grantsville. During the stop the driver of the Chrysler drove off. Troopers followed the vehicle as it reached speeds of 86 MPH attempting to evade capture.

As the vehicle traveled west on I-70, Hancock Police officers monitoring the radio assisted by placing spike strips on the roadway ahead of the pursuit. While deploying the spike strips the driver, Mr. Dozier, intentionally drove at the Hancock Officer nearly striking him. The spike strips were successfully deployed and disabled the tires of the Chrysler. The vehicle slowed driving on its rims for a short time until the vehicle stopped blocking the road. Washington County Deputies and Hancock Officers assisted during the pursuit.

Mr. Dozier was then taken into custody without further incident.

There were no injuries or property damage, other than the suspects tires, during the pursuit.

Robert Lee Dozier was taken to the Washington County Detention Center and will be charged with Fleeing an Eluding, 1st Degree Assault on a Police Officer, and Possession of CDS, Marijuana.
