Job Numbers Up In Maryland

The state’s labor market brightened last month, with the addition of 3,800 jobs helping to drive the unemployment rate below the national average for the first time since this summer. The newest figures, released Friday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, showed an unemployment rate of 5.6 percent in November, compared to 5.8 percent nationally. Maryland was one of 41 states to see the jobless rate drop. The November survey also revised up earlier estimates for October, doubling the number of jobs gained to 2,800. The  trade, transportation and utilities sector  showed the strongest growth in November, with the addition of 2,600 jobs. Sectors with slight losses included: leisure and hospitality; education and health services; and manufacturing.
