Little To No Interest Expressed By County Municipalities To Consolidate Some Government Services

It’s been three years since the Allegany County Commissioners organized a public meeting with representatives from all of the area’s towns and municipalities to have a serious and frank discussion on consolidating some government services. The hope was that a variety of duplicative services could fall under one county umbrella and lead to a reduction in costs of operation and more efficient services. Unfortunately that has not occurred. Commissioners President Mile McKay has said repeatedly that it’s up to the local governments to make the request of the county in order for this to work- and to date there has been little or no interest expressed to the commissioners. McKay says it’s an offer that remains on the table…
