Man Wanted For Child Support Attempts To Flee Police

On January 23, 2015, officers from the Cumberland City Police Department responded to the Baltimore Street area to assist a Detective from C3I in apprehending Mark Edward Whorton Jr. who had two active warrants for his arrest.  When officers arrived they were advised that Whorton had fled the area on foot.  As officers were checking the area they located Whorton walking down Goethe Street.  Once Whorton observed the officers, he quickly ran between two houses in the 400 block of Goethe Street.  Officers pursued Whorton into a wooded area and were able to take him into custody.  Whorton was transported to the Cumberland City Police Department for processing.  Whorton was served with a circuit court body attachment for failure to appear and a second warrant for second degree escape.  Whorton was processed, served and taken to the Allegany County Detention Center where he was held without bond. 

Arrested: Mark Edward Whorton Jr.                                Age: 31 of Cumberland, Maryland

 

Charges: Failure to Appear (Child Support) and Escape 2nd Degree.
