MD Voters To Use Paper Ballots

Beginning in April, voters in Maryland will fill out a paper ballot closely resembling a standardized test. After completing the form, citizens insert the ballot into a tabulator that scans and files each document. In the case of a recount, the state will have a physical ballot to count.  Maryland eliminated paper ballots after the 2000 presidential election remained unsolved for weeks due to Florida’s troublesome paper-based system. However, by 2006, electronic ballots proved problematic as well, causing issues like faulty memory cards and misrepresentation of voter party affiliation.  Maryland’s primary is April 26th with early voting beginning April 14th. Allegany County elections administrator Diane Loibel says that the early voting will take place at the County Office Complex- however it has been moved from the small room adjacent to the election board offices, to room 100 where the county commissioners meetings are held….
