Assault on Police

On September 12, 2014 officers from the Cumberland City Police Department responded to 124 Polk Street for a report of a domestic assault.  Officers responding to the area were advised that the male suspect had left the area, and that he may have been armed with a butcher knife.  Upon the officers arrival they observed a male subject later identified as Bernard Ferguson exit 130 Polk Street.   While speaking with Ferguson they observed that he had a cut to his face on his left cheek.  Ferguson informed the officers that he called the police due to an argument with his wife.  During an investigation into the alleged assault complaint, Ferguson began to argue with the officers about them entering his residence.  Officers attempted to calm Ferguson, but he became even more argumentative and angry about them entering the residence.  Ferguson entered the house yelling at a second officer who was speaking with the female resident.  Ferguson was told several times to back away and allow the officer to speak with the female resident.  Ferguson refused to do so.  He began to yell and curse at the officers.  Ferguson then took off his shirt and approached the officers in a hostile manner.  After approaching the first officer, Ferguson bumped his chest into the officer’s chest.  Ferguson was eventually arrested by the officers after a brief struggle.  Ferguson was transported to the Cumberland City Police Department for processing.  After arriving back at the police station, officers learned that Ferguson had an active arrest warrant for indecent exposure.  The warrant was issued after Ferguson allegedly exposed himself to a female at 215 Park Street on September 7, 2014.  Ferguson was processed, served and taken before the District Court Commissioner.  Ferguson was held in the Allegany County Detention Center on two separate bonds.  The first bond was $5,000 while the second bond was $3,000.
