City Woman Facing Burglary And Assault Charges

On Wednesday, September 30, 2015 Cumberland Police Officers served an arrest warrant on Laurie Lee Shell.  The warrant stemmed from an incident that occurred on 09/27/15 at a Springdale Street residence.  The original call was for a report of an assault with a knife.  Upon the Officers arrival they separated all parties involved.  According to witnesses several subjects arrived at the Springdale Street residence demanding to speak with one of the residents.  An altercation allegedly began with a resident and Laurie Shell at the door to the residence.  Witnesses stated Shell forced her way into the residence and grabbed the victim by the neck with both hands.  Shell was then pushed out of the residence and she left the scene.  After the original assault took place one of the suspects, Mickael Thornton, stated he would stab one of the residents due to the assault.  The resident was able to push Thornton out of the residence.  Thornton remained at the residence and again knocked on the door in an attempt to contact a resident.  The victim opened the door and stated Thornton was allegedly holding a knife.  Thornton then allegedly began swinging the knife in a slashing and stabbing motion toward the victim.  The victim was able to get away from Thornton by pushing him out the door.  A knife was located at the scene.  Thornton was placed under arrest at that time.  Officers later filed charges on Laurie Lee Shell.  She was placed under arrest for the warrant and taken before the District Court Commissioner’s Office where she was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center on $20,000 bond.

Bench Warrant Arrest

On September 30, 2015 Cumberland Police Officers served an arrest warrant for failing to appear in court on Michael Caswell Jr.  This bench warrant stemmed from an alleged Breaking and Entering that occurred in the Williams Street area in May of 2015.   Caswell Jr. was located inside the residence and was placed under arrest at that time.  He then failed to appear for his trial.  Caswell Jr. was again arrested and was taken before the District Court Commissioner’s Office where he was released on his personal recognizance.
