Arrest Warrant Served

On September 30, 2014 Cumberland City Police served an arrest warrant on Cheryl Lynn Jenkins, age 55 of Cumberland, Maryland.  The warrant was issued after officers from the Cumberland City Police Department responded to the area of Frederick Street near the Pit and Go on September 2, 2014, to check on the well being of a small child.  When officers arrived in the area they were approached by two subjects who called about the child being left alone on the city sidewalk.  During an investigation into the matter, officers learned that the child was seen standing alone on the sidewalk with no supervision.  The child was stopped by one of the witnesses as she attempted to walk into the travel portion of the roadway.  Officers eventually located a female subject who claimed to be the child’s aunt.  Officers identified the female as, Cheryl Lynn Jenkins.  While officers were speaking with Jenkins they noticed her to be extremely intoxicated and having trouble keeping her balance.  Officers on the scene determined that Jenkins was not able to care for the child and requested the assistance of Child Protective Services.  Proper placement was made for the child and Jenkins was charged as a result of the incident.  Jenkins was processed and served at the Cumberland City Police Department and taken before the District Court Commissioner.  Jenkins was held in the Allegany County Detention Center on $2,600 bond.
