The Allegany County Commissioners hope to revive what has been a tradition for many years- a return of weekly stock car races at the County Fairgrounds. Beginning in 1967 stock car and USAC Sprint car races took up after horse racing ended in the county- with drivers such as Mario Andretti among those appearing at the events. Commissioner Bill Valentine tells WCBC News that in recent years, largely the result of a lack of adequate promotion, the race program has essentially disappeared. He says a new promoter is stepping up and the hope is an official announcement can be made during this evenings commissioners meeting:
