State Police Seeking Assistance

(Hagerstown, MD) – On Monday 05/25/2015 at 1930 hours off duty Maryland State Police Sergeant Lease observed a female, Amber Lynn Shaffler, being choked by a dog leash by Mark Aaron Tetter. The two were on the shoulder of Rt. 65 south of the Ag Center. The victim was driving S/B on Rt. 65 in the area of the Ag Center when the suspect became upset and struck her. He then wrapped the leash around her neck and began to choke her. During the altercation their vehicle traveled into the N/B lane of Rt. 65 nearly missing two motorcycles. Sgt Lease was able to give commands to the suspect who fled the scene on foot. The suspect was located a short time later walking on Rt. 65. He was tased by Washington County Sheriff’s Department after he refused to obey verbal commands. Both the victim and suspect were transported to Meritus Medical Center where they were treated and released. At the time of this press release the suspect is being taken to central booking where he will be charged with 1st degree assault, 2nd degree assault, and reckless endangerment.
