The Cumberland Times News reports two Paw Paw men and a Cumberland man were arrested over the weekend after they were reportedly observed breaking into storage units in the Slanesville area, according to the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Office.
Police said the suspects were taken into custody after they fled from Cpl. Christopher Carroll at about 12:15 a.m. Saturday.
Carroll reported that he saw two males breaking into storage units and then turned his police vehicle to make contact with the suspects who drove away at a high rate of speed in a small red car.
Carroll was able to catch up to the suspect car and detain three male suspects identified as Alex C. McDonald, 18, and Brian B. Resh, 20, both of Paw Paw, and Jesse J. Wilkinson, 22, of Cumberland.
The men admitted to breaking into the storage units, police said. Senior Trooper Drew Bowland of the West Virginia State Police assisted with the investigation.
The suspects admitted to being involved in multiple burglaries and thefts in the Slanesville area, police said. All three suspects were charged with breaking and entering, larceny and conspiracy and are being held on $25,000 bond in the Potomac Highlands Regional Jail in Augusta.
Hampshire County Sgt. Norm Launi and Deputy First Class Chad Hott followed up with additional interviews and were able to receive further confessions of burglaries, breaking and entering, and larcenies in the Shanks and Slanesville areas. The breaking and enterings in the Shanks area were into storage units and had not yet been reported to law enforcement.
Several pieces of stolen property were also recovered from the suspects and the car they were riding in, police said.
The investigation is continuing and additional charges of burglary, breaking and entering and larceny are pending.
