Time Running Out For Footer Funding

February 28th, 2015 by WCBC Radio

The Cumberland Times News reports that following a meeting with the state budget secretary Thursday, members of the District 1 legislative delegation are still no closer to securing a funding package to upgrade the Footer Dye Works building. The lack of commitment by the state to fund $1.2 million to update the historic Footer building has placed a $9 million redevelopment package slated for the historic property in jeopardy. Del. Jason Buckel said the delegation met with David Brinkley, budget secretary, on Thursday afternoon for about 20 minutes and did not receive a firm answer on funding the Footer project. “He did express his support for the project. He conveyed that he will continue to look for creative ways to fund the project,” said Buckel. Time is running short for the Footer project since funding must be secured by the time the Maryland General Assembly adjourns on April 13.
