Young Girl Loses Battle With Cancer

October 24th, 2014 by WCBC Radio

Nine year-old Haley House lost her long battle with cancer as she passed away Thursday night.  Haley, of Cumberland, had been diagnosed with brain cancer and her courageous battle to survive captured the hearts of the community as well as garnering national attention from among others, the cast of the Duck Dynasty TV show.

Her parents kept friends, family and the community updated with the creation of the “Holding Hands for Haley” page on Facebook. Haley was diagnosed on January 2, 2013 with Low Grade Giloma. She underwent surgery on January 18, 2013, to remove part of the tumor from her brainstem. Then she began chemotherapy. Haley began to have more issues in November of 2013.

An MRI showed a new tumor growth in the brainstem and another tumor. She underwent another biopsy in February, 2014. The biopsy showed stage three anaplastic astrocytoma. Haley did six weeks of radiation and chemotherapy. Her MRI showed the tumor had stopped growing and the other had disappeared. She began to have reoccurring issues again last month and another  MRI showed new tumor growth of the brainstem tumor and more tumors throughout.

She had been undergoing chemotherapy, but became unresponsive this week and on Thursday night she passed away.  On Wednesday, thousands of area citizens wore green, Haley’s favorite color, to the south Cumberland Halloween Parade to show their support.
