Maryland Employers Add Jobs |
The federal government said Friday that Maryland employers added 35,800 jobs last month, the largest increase in the nation.
It might not all be new jobs: Workers who weren't paid during the February blizzards but went back to work afterward likely represent at least some of the increase. The U.S. Department of Labor counted a nearly 13,000-job loss in Maryland that month, which economists considered a temporary effect of the storms. Maryland unemployment held steady last month at 7.7 percent, according to preliminary numbers. The figures are adjusted to try to account for normal seasonal variations in hiring and layoffs. Two other states affected by the February snow were among the largest job creators in the nation, the government said: Virginia, with 24,500 additional jobs, and Pennsylvania, up 22,600.
