Session 2008 Preview: Computer Tax Repeal To Be Considered...
The 2008 session of the Maryland General Assembly starts Wednesday, just seven weeks after lawmakers ended a special session to deal with the deficit.
While House and Senate Republicans challenge the session in court, House Republicans are likely to introduce legislation to repeal one of the tax hikes approved.
House Minority Whip Chris Shank says he would like to repeal extending the state's 6% sales tax to computer services.
He says it would hurt technology businesses.
Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot, who will be charged with collecting the tax, also opposes it noting it would hurt a growing sector of the economy.
Andrew Stern, CEO of USi knows that first hand.
The company administers large software systems to businesses from it's Annapolis headquarters that located four miles from the State House.

O'Malley, Miller, Busch and Currie have all expressed opposition to repealing the tax, so the legislators will need encouragement from the public to buck their leadership. Visit www.ProtectMarylandTechnology.org to easily email your specific legislators.
