$150,000 To Be Allocated To New Allegany County Animal Shelter

After lengthy negotiations over a series of days, the District One legislative delegation was able to secure a total of $150,000 in capital funds for the planned new Allegany County Animal Shelter.  The Shelter Management Foundation had requested $250,000 for the project, but as of last Friday- only $50,000 on the senate side had been earmarked for that project. At that point Delegates Mike McKay and Jason Buckel began talking with some of the local groups that had money targeted for specific projects- and essentially asked if they would be willing to take a slight hit in order to see some funding go toward a new animal shelter. Delegate McKay said that at the end of the day Tuesday, $50,000 from the Footer Dye Works project; $25,000 from the Allegany County Museum and $25,000 from the Washington Street, street lighting project had been secured for the animal shelter. Combined with the $50,000 from the senate, a total of $150,000 will be allocated to the shelter pending final approval in the house and senate…
