2020 General Session Has Officially Begun

The 2020 session of the Maryland General Assembly officially began Wednesday at noon in Annapolis- and the District One Delegation will have a full slate of local issues they hope to address.  With four vacancies on the Allegany County Board of Education in the last 11 years filled by gubernatorial appointments- State Senator George Edwards says he plans to introduce legislation that would place those decisions in the hands of local officials…

 

Delegate Wendell Beitzel also will be focused on local education funding which is tied to enrollment numbers…

 

Delegate Mike McKay meanwhile will once again push for a bill authorizing a smart phone application for parents of substance-exposed children to use to check in with social workers failed last year to gain approval last year.  McKay hopes to see an “I’m Alive” pilot program approved for the western region…
