Cumberland Man Jailed On Multiple Charges

Cumberland City Police officers were dispatched to a Humbird Street residence early Saturday evening in reference to a disturbance.  Upon arrival to the scene, officers met with the resident and observed that they were visibly upset and shaken.  

While interviewing the resident, officers observed a male subject leaving the residence by a back door apparently attempting to avoid officers.  The male subject later identified as Markel Davon Whitfield, 27, of Cumberland was stopped and interviewed by officers.  

An investigation was conducted and officers found that Whitfield entered the residence uninvited, assaulted the resident, and when interviewed by officers provided them with a false name.  When officers were able to positively identify Whitfield, they found that he was in violation of a court order by being at the residence and contacting the resident.   

Whitfield was placed under arrest and transported to Cumberland Police Headquarters where he was charged with the following:

 

Assault 2nd Degree – 1 count

Burglary 3rd Degree – 1 count

Trespassing – 1 count

Fraud: Personal Identity –Avoid Prosecution – 1 count

Violation of Ex-parte order – 1 count

Whitfield was processed for the above charges and transported to the Allegany County District Court for a preliminary hearing before a court commissioner.  Whitfield was held at the Allegany County Detention Center on a $25,000 bond.
