February 7th, 2016 by WCBC Radio

Sunday at approximately 07:27 a.m., there was a fatal motor vehicle crash on west bound I-70 at Downsville Pike. The involved motor vehicle was a 2004 Kia Optima, operated by Esther A. Cho, 19 yoa, of Lutherville, MD.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the Kia was traveling west bound on I-70 in the fast lane and was over taking a 26’ box truck. Witness’s stated that the Kia veered toward the truck. The driver overcorrected, causing the Kia to lose control. The Kia fish-tailed, slid sideways and impacted the guard rail at a high rate of speed. The vehicle overturned, coming to rest in the median. The operator of the Kia was the only occupant and was killed on impact. Initial investigation suggests that excessive speed was a contributing factor. The Kia was the only vehicle involved. I-70 was temporarily closed for investigation. All lanes were reopened by 09:15 a.m.
