April 12th, 2021 by WCBC Radio

The Allegany County Health Department reports that 20,068 Allegany County residents have received their first dose of a two-dose vaccine against COVID-19 (28.5% of the population), with 12,938 of those individuals now fully vaccinated with their second dose (18.4 % of the population).  Additionally, 1,985 Allegany County residents have received the single dose Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine (2.8%).

By comparison, the state reported that 34.5% of all Marylanders had received their first dose of a two-dose vaccine, with 20.3% having had both doses and an additional 2.7% vaccinated with the single dose vaccine.

Vaccine providers statewide have now opened eligibility for all Marylanders age 16 and older.  However, individuals ages 16 and 17 will only be able to utilize providers who offer the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine because it is the only one currently approved by the FDA for that age group.
