The 42nd annual Derby Day, the city of Frostburg’s premier event, kicks off today at noon. The annual Fourth of July event sponsored by Frostburg Elks Lodge 470 features soapbox races on Main Street. Last year, about three dozen contestants took part in the competition that was viewed by hundreds of spectators who line Main Street. Co-chair of the event, Vicki Wiseman, said the annual Derby Day race was founded in 1977 by the Frostburg Elks Lodge as a centennial gift to the community and a way to maintain family values…
