46th Annual Street Rod Roundup

September 1st, 2018 by WCBC Radio

About 500 street rodders are expected to pack the Allegany County Fairgrounds for this weekend's 46th annual Western Maryland Street Rod Roundup.  The event features cars and trucks built in 1972 or earlier. The roundup serves as a fundraiser for The Children’s League, a nonprofit that provides free services in orthopedics, cerebral palsy, cleft lip/palate, speech therapy and physical therapy to children in West Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania. The street rodders have helped raise $800,000 for the organization since the first roundup in 1972. For the second year, the event also will raise money for the Haley House Foundation, a nonprofit that supports childhood cancer research. The street rodders raised $3,500 by parking cars during last month's Allegany County Fair and Ag Expo.  Proceeds from the event will be split between The Children's League and the Haley House Foundation. New this year is a car part auction that will be held Saturday at the clubhouse. Crowd favorites rod jousting and burnouts will return  this year. The event is held Saturday through Monday at the Allegany County Fairgrounds and is open to the public.
