Cox, Sullivan County School Board agree to terms

June 1st, 2019 by WCBC Radio

Contract terms for David Cox to become the new Sullivan County, Tennessee, director of schools have been agreed too, The school board selected the longtime Allegany County Superintendent in early May. The contract is not yet official as it will need to be ratified by a vote in public session when the school board meets Thursday, June 6th.  When that happens, Cox will prepare to assume his new duties on August 1.  Cox's contract will run through June 30, 2023, with a salary for the 2019-20 school year at $134,000.  Cox will also receive health insurance, life insurance and dental insurance with other benefit.  On the local front things are not as clear cut as Cox and the Allegany County School Board have not finalized terms of his exit.  June 30 would mark Cox's 10th anniversary as ACPS superintendent. Cox is the longest serving school superintendent in Maryland. The board met in closed session Friday afternoon with legal council, absent members Foote and Farrell who have recused themselves from any negotiations involving Cox.

      > I am not defending or attacking Dr. Cox, but it would be foolish to assume that the “three amigos,” Moe, Larry, and Curley Joe will hire a better replacement.
