The Cumberland Times News reports a Hardy County man was injured early Wednesday when his pickup truck traveled off U.S. Route 220, down an 80-foot embankment and into the South Branch of the Potomac River. West Virginia State Police reported that Terry R. Henry, 45, of Moorefield, was taken to Grant Memorial Hospital by Fraley's Ambulance Service following the 4:30 a.m. crash that occurred at U.S. Route 220 and Ogden Farm Road in the area of the Old Fields bridge, state police Cpl. Scott Nazelrod said.
Nazelrod said speed was a factor in the crash that occurred when Henry lost control of his late-model Ford pickup that traveled 250 feet off the roadway before striking a sign and guardrail. The truck then traveled over the embankment and into the river. Henry was thrown from the truck.
First-responders reportedly found Henry on the embankment. He was treated for hypothermia and was taken to the Petersburg hospital for treatment. No information was available concerning his condition late Wednesday morning.
Moorefield Volunteer Fire Department and West Virginia Division of Highways personnel also responded to the scene upon alert by the Hardy County 911 emergency center.
