ACPS Sets P-TECH Meeting at CCTE

February 11th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

An informational meeting for parents and potential students for the third cohort of P-TECH will be held at the Center for Career and Technical Education, 14211 McMullen Highway, Cresaptown, MD, on Tuesday, March 5, 2019, from 6-7:00 p.m. in the academic wing auditorium.  The snow date for this meeting is Thursday, March 7, 2019, at 6 p.m.

The P-TECH (Pathways to Technology Early College High School) program is a high school and beyond (9-14) model, which combines high school, college, and the world of work. The program’s mission is to provide students with a potentially cost-free education that starts in grade nine, continues through high school completion with a high school diploma, and culminates in the attainment of an Associate Degree in Computer Technology, with a cybersecurity focus. Students in the P-TECH program will attend their home high school in grades 9 and 10 and will enroll in the IT Networking Academy (CISCO) at the Career Center in grades 11 and 12.

P-TECH is made possible through collaboration between ACPS, Allegany College of Maryland, Frostburg State University, and the Western Maryland Health System. Other business and industry partners in Allegany County include Exclamation Labs, Willetts Systems, Inc., and First United Bank and Trust.  These partnerships are invaluable, as they will allow students in the program to gain workplace skills, mentoring, and other career experiences. P-TECH students will also have the opportunity to participate in a paid internship with a business partner and will ultimately have priority to be considered for a job by one of the business partners following successful completion of the program.
