Alco Project: Low Bid $52.2 Million

February 24th, 2016 by WCBC Radio

UPDATE:  The Allegany County Board of Education opened the three bids for the Allegany High School Project, and the Leonard S. Fiore Company, of Altoona, Pennsylvania, provided the low bid at $52.23 million.  The next lowest bid came from Dustin Construction, of Ijamsville, Maryland, at just over $53 million.  The third bid, from P.J. Dick, of Pittsburgh, came in slightly above that figure

The school board has arranged a financing package of about $49 million.  County Commissioners President Jake Shade said he is thrilled with the new bids and believes the county will be an active and cooperative funding partner with the system.   The project is said to have the support of Maryland Governor Larry Hogan and Comptroller Peter Franchot, who are two of the three votes on the Board of Public Works.  The local legislative delegation, led by Senator George Edwards, said they needed a final figure before asking the state for additional financial assistance.

1:30 PM:  WCBC's Bryan Gowans reports that there are only three bid packets that have been returned to the Allegany County Board of Education on the rebidding of the Allegany High School Replacement Project.

Gowans says his source is ACPS Director of Facilities Vince Montana.
