December 17th, 2015 by WCBC Radio

An accident Thursday at approximately 7:30 on Maryland 51 near Mexico Farms Road involving more than one vehicle  caused serious injuries to two people who were taken to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. One of those injured was 16 year-old Averey Bridges, the daughter of Allegany County Sheriff’s Deputy Craig Bridges.  Allegany County 911 Emergency Management reported that District 16 volunteer fire and ambulance units responded to the scene along with the Cumberland Fire Department ambulance. A dispatcher reported the first alerts of the responding fire and EMS units indicated at least one person was entrapped in the wreckage. An accident re-construction team was called to the scene.  Allegany County Sheriff Craig Robertson talked with  WCBC News that that for a number of reasons, his department requested that the investigation be taken over by Maryland State Police. Because of the inclement weather conditions, those injured could not be transported via Trooper Five Helicopter and they were taken by way of police escort to Baltimore's Shock Trauma Unit.
