Allegany and Bishop Walsh Student Athletes Talk Scheduling

June 28th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

Although they are neighbors on Haystack Mountain, Allegany and Bishop Walsh are on different planets when it comes to athletic scheduling for the upcoming school year.  A dispute which has its roots in boys basketball scheduling has spread to where it appears the schools will not play each other in any sport.  Bishop Walsh Boys Soccer player Caleb Ziegler says he’s been in touch with players from Alco, and they all want to continue to play each other…

Former BW Coach Tim Rowan says he’d like to see a summit meeting with administrators, athletic directors, coaches, players and parents convened to deal with the situation.

If history prevails, nothing will be said or done and the powers that be will hope it goes away. 5 years from now they will not remember it but the kids that miss out on playing will. Boys soccer has a strong history in the City and all 3 school should be playing each other. The kids want it. Cast your ego aside and do what is right for the kids. Treat individual sports individually, don’t penalizes these boys because of basketball and something that is out of their control.

BW and Alco haven’t played in baseball the last 5 years. They didn’t play in football when BW had a team. They don’t compete in many sports so not sure why this is a big deal.
