Allegany Co. Opportunity Scholarship Program Receives Award At MACo Conference

The Allegany County Opportunity Scholarship (ACOS) Program received the Academy for Excellence in Local Governance County Best Practices Award at the recent MACo Winter Conference in Cambridge, Maryland to highlight the program's success with creating opportunities and boosting the local workforce. Since the ACOS program's inception, more than 700 scholarships have been awarded. The program funds merit awards and tuition subsidies to individuals of all ages who have been a resident in the county for at least 3 years and are studying at either Allegany College of Maryland (ACM) or Frostburg State University (FSU). The scholarship applies to credit courses in any major at all levels. County Commissioners President Bill Valentine said the program has exceeded all expectations…
