Allegany Co. Public Schools Obligated To Continue To Pay For Healthcare Of Dr. Cox And Wife

June 18th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

A clause in the contract of outgoing Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Cox that says Allegany County Public Schools are obligated to pay for the healthcare of Dr. Cox and his wife through Medicare supplemental eligibility came to light on Monday’s WCBC Dave Norman Show.  Board Vice President David Bohn says legal opinion is that the school system is on the hook, even though Dr. Cox will be working in Tennessee beginning August 1.  He says he’ll talk about it when he’s able…

The current contract with Dr. Cox was approved by the previous school board.  Former members Sara Beth Bittinger and Laurie Marchini have declined to go on the air with Dave Norman, while current board member Tammy Fraley says she will issue a statement at today’s board meeting.

    How did the sharp-eyed legal team hired by the Board fail to notice that?
    In the normal course of things contracts are reviewed after any changes or additions are made and all parties must sign off on the changes.
    A couple of other clauses that were passed over are;
    Subsection B, paragraph 3, which states that Dr. Cox is entitled to free Snickers bars from the first floor vending machine and Subsection E, paragraph 11 which states that Dr. Cox’s car will be washed, every Saturday, by high school cheerleaders.
