Allegany County All County Band Festival Set

The annual Allegany County All County Band Festival will be held on April 10 and 11, 2013, in the auditorium at Fort Hill High School beginning at 7 p.m. each evening.  All concerts are free and open to the public.

The fifth and sixth grade All County Bands will be performing on April 10, 2013.  The fifth grade program will be directed by elementary instrumental instructors David Kuhn, Scott Heavner, Harold McClay, and Charles Yarnall, and will feature the following selections:  Royal Crown March, Dr. Rock, Rio Bravo, and Boot Scootin’ Barn Dance. 

The sixth grade program will be conducted by Allegany County’s middle school instrumental faculty Janet Stevens, Tom Harrison, Janet Jones and Jim Roderick.  Selections will include:  Forward March, Rock Around the Clock, Two Chinese Fold Songs, Watermelon Man, and Of a Distant Galaxy. 

On Thursday, April 11, 2013, All County Festival bands representing junior and senior high will perform under the direction of guest conductors Richard Hauf and Dr. Christian Zembower respectively. 

Mr. Hauf is in his 20th year as the Band Director at Havre de Grace High School in Harford County, Maryland, where he currently serves as the Fine Arts Department Chair.  He conducts the symphonic band, concert band, 9th grade band, jazz ensemble, Warrior Pride Marching Band and Percussion Ensemble, and also teaches AP music theory.  Hauf received his bachelor’s degree from Towson University and his Master’s in Music Education from Peabody Conservatory and also studied briefly at Villanova University.  His conducting teachers included Dana Rothlisberger, Jerry Nowak and Harlan Parker.  Selections for the junior high program are as follows:  The Avenger March, Ritual Fire Dance, Yorkshire Ballad, Symphony No. 15 Finale, and The Civil War.

Dr. Zembower is the Director of Bands and Associate Professor of Music at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee.  His duties include conducting the wind ensemble, concert band and chamber winds; teaching advanced conducting, marching band methods, and band literature; leading all aspects concerning the concert bands program, and overseeing the activities of the basketball pep band.  A native of Short Gap, West Virginia, Dr. Zembower is a 1986 graduate of Frankfort High School where he served as Drum Major of the Frankfort High School marching band during his senior year.  Senior high program selections include:  Chaconne from First Suite in E-Flat, Affirmation from Elegy and Affirmation, Dusk, Mayflower Overture, and Urban Scenes. Senior high band directors are Joe Thompson, Fort Hill; Larry Jackson, Allegany; and David Kauffman, Mountain Ridge.
