I would assume that feeding your child one time a day would be considered neglect/child abuse so how many parents are guilty of child abuse in Allegany County? Or are they taking handouts paid by my taxes?

Cumberland is not only one of the poorest cities in MD it is one of the poorest cities in the nation. Therefore, we have a very high percentage of children who grow up in poverty. Some schools in our county have as much as 80% plus of their student bodies who qualify for the Federal School Lunch Program. And yes Dave, your taxes and everyone else’s taxes pay for the free and reduced meal programs in our schools. If you want to cut it from the budget you can write your congressman.

Jay, please don’t think me heartless. I know there are poor people in our area and the children bear the consequences of it. My question is how do they make it through the summer? Do they eat from garbage cans? If our school system wants to feed them it’s ok with me, just hope you don’t believe that there are that many “hungry” kids out there. Some yes, but a lot of lazy and worthless parents all to eager for a government hand out (not all but a lot). With all the “Now hiring” signs out I find it hard to believe the parents can’t find work. Of course that’s before this Wuhan flu stuff.
