Allegany County Commissioners Mull Budget Scenarios

April 11th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

The Allegany County Commissioners Thursday spent a one hour work session reviewing various scenarios to bring the county budget fof Fiscal Year 2020 into balance.

One unexpected challenge came up:  The board of the Allegany County Animal Shelter said it needed at least a $100,000 increase for the coming year, or it would be turning the operation back to the county.

Commission President Jake Shade said the shelter is facing financial stress, brought on in part by a move to increase Maryland's minimum wage.

County agenices will be challenged to come up with more operational savings in the coming week.
