Allegany County Commissioners Working With City To Address Bridges

The Allegany County Commissioners are working with the city of Cumberland to address the numerous bridges that are either closed or badly in need of repair- and it appears the Baltimore Street span has become the top priority. County officials had been looking at repairing the Cumberland Street bridge- but were notified last week that the bridge on Baltimore Street has to be the main focal point at this time. Bridge issues aside, Cumberland City officials are optimistic that a number of projects are starting to come to fruition, and combined could prove an economic boon for the region. A commercial development for the Rolling Mill area; a redesigned downtown mall that will be open to vehicle traffic and parking; loft apartments and a micro brewery at the Footer Dye Works building; and a planned River Park at Canal Place all have tremendous promise to revitalize the local economy.
