Allegany County Takes Home Multiple ‘Best of Awards’ from Blue Ridge Outdoors Magazine

January 4th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

Looking for a place to dine? Well, then look no further than your own backyard. Five local area food and beverage establishments took home Blue Ridge Outdoors Magazine’s recently announced ‘Best of Awards’ in its January 2018 issue.

This is Blue Ridge Outdoors’ fifth annual Best of Awards, which consisted of an online nomination then polling process. 75 categories are featured within the publication from best local outdoor experiences to events, and from local adventurers to guides/outfitters. But it was the food and beverage category specifically in which Allegany County was well represented, beating out competition from nine states and Washington, D.C.

Best Bar / Pub – Dante’s Bar – Frostburg, Maryland

Under the Best Taco category, Frostburg’s A Place to Eat earned a finalist award. Only two finalists were listed outside of the best of winner.

“What is impressive outside of the recognition is that many of these establishments are within a year or two of operation,” says Ashli Workman, director of tourism for Allegany County, Maryland. “These awards not only symbolize their impact to our community and to the visitor experience, but the influence food culture has on destination travel.”

The full feature is now available in the January 2018 issue of Blue Ridge Outdoors. The region was also recently featured by Blue Ridge Outdoors as a Top Adventure Town for 2017. A designation the community can tout through 2018.
