Allocation Of City Funds To Canal Subject Of Special Work Session

Cumberland City Councilman’s Nick Scarpelli’s proposal to allocate $80,000 in city funds for Canal Place was the subject of a special work session of the council Tuesday evening, with no form resolution reached. Scarpelli presented the recommendation for consideration at the last council meeting, and is looking for a majority vote to make the financial commitment a reality. With Mayor Brian Grim and Councilwoman Nicole Wagoner recusing themselves from a possible vote for conflict of interest’s reasons- Scarpelli needs to secure just one vote other than himself to move forward from either David Kauffman or David Caporale.  With state and county dollars for Canal Place drying up, Scarpelli said it’s imperative to provide additional funding because he believes the project is an important part of the city’s economic development and tourism future…
