September 3rd, 2014 by WCBC Radio

A small but often times emotional crowd in attendance at Tuesday evening's meeting of the Allegany County Animal Control Board. With two board members passing away over the summer, this provided the first public opportunity for public comment to the board since two high profile animal hoarding cases- one in Cumberland and one in Bel Air. Criminal charges have been filed against the persons responsible in eaech case, with jail time a part of the sentence. The biggest concern centers on the Bel Air case where apparently numerous calls by neighbors were made to the Animal Shelter and no response came for several weeks- during which times several dogs died due to the conditions. Board member Judy Thelen:

The Animal Shelter management foundation president issued a public statement last month taking full responsibility for the Bel Air incident, and implementing several new policies designed to prohibit any such lapse from occurring in the future.
