July 1st, 2016 by WCBC Radio

The Allegany County Animal Shelter will host a wine festival Aug. 6 from noon to 7 p.m. at the Ali Ghan Shrine Club picnic grounds.

The event also will feature a beer garden, hard cider, artists at work, unique crafters and food vendors.

Proceeds will benefit the shelter’s veterinary care fund. Tickets can be purchased online, at the Allegany County Animal Shelter, The Book Center, Barkin’ Basement or Southern States in Cumberland or The Draft Sports Bar & Grille, Fox’s Pizza and Lil Corner Market in Frostburg. Tickets can also be purchased the day of the festival.

An online auction of a painting by local artist Deborah Hicks — aka D. Hicks — will start July 1.

The Allegany County Animal Shelter is the only municipal no-kill shelter in Maryland, serving an average of 1,800 dogs and cats a year.
