AOC Delaney Tweet Prompts Campaign Response

June 3rd, 2019 by WCBC Radio

Over the weekend, former 6th District Congressman John Delaney was booed by fellow Democrats in California for saying that Medicare for all would be bad policy.  Via Twitter, New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took a shot at Delaney:

“Since there’s so many people running for President (& not enough for Senate), instead of obsessing over who‘s a 'frontrunner,' maybe we can start w some general eliminations,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote. “This awful, untrue line got boo’ed for a full minute. John Delaney, thank you but please sashay away.”

Michael Starr Hopkins, John Delaney’s National Press Secretary, releases the following statement:

“The only person Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez helped with her tweet about Congressman Delaney was Donald Trump.  If Democrats are serious about beating the President at the ballot box, we need less political grandstanding and more truth-telling from the Bernie wing of the party.

“2016 should have taught us that if we allow this primary to become a popularity contest on Twitter rather than a debate of ideas in the public square, the country will lose. We’ve seen this playbook before and it ends with a second term for Donald Trump.”

First, notice that Congressman Delaney was booed by other Democrats.
Second, Michael Starr Hopkins implying that Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez is helping Trump is just wrong. He implies that it’s either Congressman Delaney’s way or else it must be wrong.
Third, Michael Starr Hopkins throwing out the phrase; “the Bernie wing” is an attempt to marginalize another candidate who disagrees with Congressman Delaney. That doesn’t make Senator Sanders wrong.
Finally, Michael Starr Hopkins mentions the bogeyman Donald Trump and a second term. Emotionally charged scare tactics. Nothing more, nothing less.
All in all hyperbole at best, BS at worst.

AOC is a thug. Delaney ran and won his 1st election as a example in how to make it in America.

John Delaney may have “won his first election as a example in how to make it in America” but he has failed miserably when it comes to getting his message out in this primary.

After reading that twitter exchange, it’s quite likely that Delaney’s problem might be traced to having an entirely inept press secretary.
